Last day of Autumn
The temperature really starts to drop and one can feel less and less motivated to venture outside. The warm, cozy home is much more appealing and it feels way too easy to binge watch your favorite show, indulging on some comfort foods and perhaps letting normal routine slide.
Winter starts tomorrow, but it doesn’t have to feel sluggish, ready to get seasonal sickness. Little intention and few smart habits can keep you energized, resilient and healthy all winter long. Here are few tips from my winter wellness guide.
Nourish with seasonal food. These are warming and nutrient-dense foods, including root vegetables (sweet potatoes, carrots, beets). Add more leafy greens like kale, collards, Swiss chard, these are packed with immune-supporting nutrients. Spices, such as ginger, turmeric, cinnamon, that boost circulation and digestion.
Hydrate! Cold air and indoor heating can be dehydrating.
Sleep well. Have a good 7-9 hours a sleep per night. Create your ritual, relaxing bath with calming music or meditation to promote calm before sleep.
Keep moving, even if it is cold. Regular movement is key to a good energy, mood and immune health. Try at least 20 min daily brisk walk outside, or indoor exercise on those rainy days such as yoga, Pilates, strength training.
Those are just some ideas. As the days are getting shorter and less sunlight, winter blues can sneak up on us, affecting our health, mood and energy. So create your routine, listen to your body, embrace the slower rhythm of the winter season. Honor your wellbeing and happiness with small intentional choices you make every day.
